Police staff

Pay & conditions

The terms and conditions of most police staff in England and Wales are negotiated by UNISON at the Police Staff Council for England and Wales. These are incorporated into the contracts of employment of police staff by each force.

In Scotland, there is a separate bargaining machinery called the Police Staff Council – Scotland

At the Police Staff Council (England and Wales), UNISON meets with the following Employers – the Association of Police Authorities, the Association of Chief Police Officers and the Home Office

Agreements reached by the Council can be found in the Police Staff Council Handbook, and Police Staff Council Joint Circulars below.

Each police force designs its own pay system (i.e. grades/pay bands) using the PSC national pay scale

UNISON is campaigning to end this wasteful duplication of police staff pay systems by arguing for a single national pay structure for all police staff in England and Wales.
