Primary Care
UNISON is leading the way in campaigning for staff working in primary care. We believe that many of the reforms being pushed by the government hold major risks, not just to staff terms and conditions and job security, but for the continuity and quality of healthcare to patients and the future of the NHS as a publicly owned and operated resource.
The launch of the Department of Health's Transforming Community Services (TCS) programme in early 2009 has seen the government pushing for PCTs to adopt new organisational structures to provide their services - including social enterprises and private sector companies. Staff face the possibility of being transferred out of the NHS.
If you're not already a UNISON member speak to your local UNISON representative about how joining can ensure your voice is heard in the workplace.

(20/07/2010) UNISON has developed a range of guidance briefings and campaigning materials to assist activists and members to understand and influence the Transforming Community Services programme in your workplace.
(19/07/2010) The Department of Health is piloting personal health budgets and direct payments across England to evaluate their impact on patients, staff and the NHS. UNISON supports the principle that everyone should have as much independence, choice and control over their own care and support arrangements as is right for them. However, personalisation in practice is boiling down to “cash for care” – a consumerist approach which holds many risks for staff and users.
(22/05/2010) This briefing looks at the role of your local authority Overview and Scrutiny Committees (OSCs) and Local Involvement Networks (LINks) and how they can help you to challenge NHS privatisation.
